3D Design

A collection of works featuring 3D modelling and design

  • The idea behind this project was to make a central subject, model and sculpt that subject, UV map in Cinema 4D, bring the UV map into Substance Painter, and then render the subject out using Redshift. To showcase these levels of processes, I chose a simple yet very striking subject. A frog. A simple frog, which was modeled and based on a blue poisonous frog called the Blue poison dart frog. I chose this frog because of its striking blue colours and the textures of their skin. This is my attempt at stylistic realism in 3D space.

The atmosphere of this piece is supposed to represent the coldness of a Lab setup, and the frog is supposed to be representative of a lab specimen. My classmates fondly named the frog Tabitha, hence she is Tabitha the frog.

Tabitha The Frog

  • This piece is an experiment with repetition and movement using cinema 4D and X-particles. There was no detailed intention behind this image except the need to make a cool, visually compelling image that could have an implied meaning, but could also just be something interesting to look at.

Internal Movement

  • So close yet so far …

This is a culmination of me trying to create some cool textures and ending up with an implied star-crossed lovers scenario. I attempted to experiment with atom arrays and tracers and through just working out the kinks of the technique, came up with this design. Adding the human elements and the bridge made it feel more connected as a visually compelling piece. This piece was done in Cinema 4D using the Redshift rendering engine.

Almost

  • Experiment with materials, textures and some fun dynamics. This was an in-class project done during my final semester in Grad school. The idea behind this was to explore how different textures can be overlayed over each other in cinema 4D and Redshift. In the video, I wanted to show how adding materials, textures and colour correction changes the image drastically, and these are key elements in creating a compelling image.

Geometry Box

  • I was learning about deforming geometry and using the deformers in cinema 4D to make some interesting visuals - and I ended up with this! I had a lot of fun creating interesting lighting set-up, and transparent materials, and adjusting the composition and form to create a visually interesting image.

Sliced

  • The idea behind this piece was to create a compelling visual piece using the sketch and toon effect in Cinema 4D. I wanted to create something that makes you think and the sketchy textures of this rendering technique allowed me to explore interconnectedness between faces, objects, and simple geometry to create a complex visual piece. I wanted to highlight that humans are interconnected through the dark aspects of humanity and the world. It’s supposed to be open to interpretation.

Interconnected

  • This piece was my visual exploration into the material creation, lighting, and shading capabilities of the Redshift renderer in cinema 4D. I wanted to create a living room space that was warm, inviting, and a little eclectic. I experimented with the three-point lighting, trying different colours and diffuse properties. I also experimented with the camera properties, specifically the depth of field property of the Redshift camera. The most technical part of this piece was creating materials and editing existing materials. This was my first attempt at working around a node-based workflow but it was a great learning experience.

Overall I liked how it came out and maybe in the future, I could recreate this as my living room.

Maximalist Living Room

  • The inspiration behind this design was Medusa from Greek mythology, who has snakes on her head instead of hair. In my fantasy character design, I have attempted to make a woman who is transforming into a mythical creature. Thorny vines are coming out of her cracked skull and flowers are growing from them. Her eyebrows have turned into vines and her veins are protruding to show a drastic transformation in her body. I have kept the colour scheme two tone gradient for the sculpt so that the actual sculpt is highlighted more than anything else.
